Far Eastern Curlew Numenius madagascariensis Critically Endangered in Australia, Vulnerable in Victoria January 8th, 2018 Jam Jerrup, Victoria, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM lens Canon EF 1.4x III Extender Could not believe my luck with this one! It was my first outing with the new camera & there wasn't much about initially. I was laying in the sand photographing terns & gulls when all of a sudden this big, beautiful wader flew in & landed amongst them! I couldn't believe it - my favourite wader - what an opportunity to test out the camera! As the curlew slowly made it's way towards the waters edge I managed to crawl inch by inch into a position that enabled me to isolate the curlew from the other birds & snap a few shots. I even managed to get closer than I have ever been to these usually very skittish birds. Totally stoked!
