The largest of the bowerbirds, the males spend the majority of their life building, maintaining, improving, defending & above all displaying from their bowers in order to attract a mate. The bowers are around one metre long & approx. 45cms wide, usually built under a shrub or leafy branch. Great Bowerbirds have the most elaborate collection of trinkets of the bowerbirds, with both entrances decorated with collections of white & green objects, including stones, bones, shells & leaves, as well as numerous small man-made objects such as screws, bottle caps & other plastic items. Additionally, the centre of the bower is decorated with clear glass pieces. This male was busily ensuring that every trinket & every stick was perfectly in place.
