I even managed to climb up onto the roof of my truck to get a better angle.
Shy Albatross Thalassarche cauta Vulnerable in Australia & Victoria June 18th, 2017 Port Fairy pelagic, Victoria, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens On only my second pelagic adventure, we had an absolute cracker of a day! The weather Gods were kind to us - & so were the birds. The overcast sky was perfect for photography, the deep blue wasn't too rough, & plenty of seabirds came in to inspect our boat to see what delicacies were in the offering. I was particularly keen to see & photograph albatross as I had seen many photographs of these large, elegant birds & I was really excited for the opportunity to capture my own. And boy did I have plenty of opportunity! Our first stop saw dozens & dozens of different species circling the boat, it was incredible! It proved difficult to pick a specific bird to try & photograph! I really wanted to capture the oceanic feeling of the pelagic - showing the endless nature of the deep blue. I was really happy with how this photo of a Shy Albatross riding the waves came out.
