Black-tailed Native-hen Tribonyx ventralis November 27th, 2019 Wheelers Hill, Victoria, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM lens Canon EF 1.4x III Extender When a report of a single Native-hen hanging around a local lake appeared on one of the birding groups, I was pretty keen to get down there & check it out. Usually a very skittish species, I couldn't believe my luck with how tame this particular bird was! This local park attracts a lot of people & their dogs, & despite this the Native-hen was happily feeding on grasses only a few metres from passers-by. It didn't take long for this beauty to come & check out what I was doing laying on the grass watching it feed! I really wanted a portrait showing that fantastic beak & I was please to also capture part of the black tail feathers.
Australian Wood Duck (female) Chenonetta jubata November 27th, 2019 Wheelers Hill, Victoria, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM Canon EF 1.4x III Extender I really like the subtle beauty of these ducks with the faint lines across their face & mottled plumage.
Black-tailed Native-hen Tribonyx ventralis November 19th, 2019 Wheelers Hill, Victoria, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM lens Canon EF 1.4x III Extender A particularly tame Native-hen turned up at a local spot near my work late last year for a few weeks. Quite unusual to find one on its own and so accommodating.
