Eastern Reef Egret grey morph Egretta sacra September 12th, 2019 Lee Point, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM lens Canon EF 1.4x III Extender Continuing on with the Egret theme, this is another Northern species - the Eastern Reef Egret. This Egret is found in two different colours, grey & white. I was happy to photograph both colours on our trip to Darwin last year.
Beach Stone-curlew Esacus magnirostris September 12th, 2019 Lee Point, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM lens Canon EF 1.4x III Extender My first ever sighting of a Beach Stone-curlew! I was rapt to finally catch up with this species early one morning after a few failed attempts. Such interesting & quirky waders - they use their considerable bills to eat crabs.
Forest Kingfisher (male) Todiramphus macleayii September 11th, 2019 Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve, Middle Point, Northern Territory, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM lens Canon EF 1.4x III Extender One of my favourite images from my recent NT trip - the beautifully coloured Forest Kingfisher. This beauty was hunting larger insects in the dry field, using these large, dead grass stems as a perch. I really wanted an image that showed off those amazing iridescent blue feathers, so I was stoked when this bird landed close by.
