It can sometimes be a challenge to isolate a single bird, but as the flock fans out every now & then a trailblazer will provide an opportunity.
Musk Duck (male) Biziura lobata December 30th, 2019 Lysterfield, Victoria, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM lens Canon EF 1.4x III Extender I had been wanting to photograph this species for some time but they had always eluded me - until the resident Musk Ducks at Lysterfield Lake finally decided to play nice! I had visited this spot on the previous morning, there was no wind to speak of & the water was still. However, this meant the water colour was quite unusual & proved difficult to produce the kind of image I was after. The following morning, with a bit more wind, the ripples across the water produced a much more pleasing blue colour! At first it looked like it would all be in vain as the Musks were much further out on the water. I lay on the water's edge & waited when suddenly this male swam right into the little protected cove where I was & began preening. Man I was thrilled!

Been wanting to photograph this species for some time but they had always eluded me - until yesterday! The resident Musk Ducks at Lysterfield Lake finally decided to play nice, five of them were loafing about close to the shoreline. This particular male was busy preening & ended up with several downy feathers caught on his bill.
