Gouldian Finch (male) Erythrura gouldiae September 21st, 2019 Wyndham, Western Australia, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM lens Canon EF 1.4x III Extender The local caravan park in Wyndham is a well known hot spot for these incredibly colourful Finches. We drove about 8 hours from Pine Creek in the NT to Wyndham to spend a couple of nights here with hopes of photographing this species. Thankfully, a couple of flocks dropped by the waterhole of a morning for a quick drink. This is a red-headed male, which are rarer than the more common black-headed males. We didn't see that many of this colour during our stay so I was pretty happy to come away with an image of one of these stunning males.

These birds were regulars at the waterhole in Wyndham.
White-quilled Rock-pigeon Petrophassa albipennis September 20th, 2019 Kununurra, Western Australia, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM lens Canon EF 1.4x III Extender These secretive Pigeons live within rocky formations in the North of Western Australia & the Northern Territory. They blend in beautifully with their surroundings & unless they are heard are quite challenging to locate. This particular individual was part of a flock of 30-odd birds that were feeding on the grounds of Mirima National Park. The birds were slowly making their way to one of the cliff faces. After a few birds crossed the road ahead of us, I lay down on the side of the road hoping to catch a straggler. Thankfully this little stunner came wandering through & even paused for a few moments while I took its picture!
