Musk Duck (male) Biziura lobata June 9th, 2020 Lysterfield, Victoria, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM lens There are a few male Musk Ducks that reside on Lysterfield Lake, often competing for females. This is the dominant male, who happens to have the largest pendulous lobe. My assumption is he is the eldest of the males. I have often seen him chasing the other males for hundreds of metres across the lake! On this particularly still morning, this male put on quite a show! The male will perform an elaborate courtship routine, which includes a series tail flicks, high pitched short whistles & plenty of splashing! He will raise his head & lobe, arch his tail inwards then use both of his feet to simultaneously kick water into the air. It's quite a spectacle!
Eurasian Coot Fulica atra June 5th, 2020 Lysterfield, Victoria, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM lens I've been having a lot of fun with the local Coots over the past couple weeks, trying to shoot them as they come steaming in along the water. Really puts the camera's autofocus to the test!
